About
Meet Emily Rice, MaEd, LMHC
I believe therapy works best when it feels like a real conversation between two humans — one of whom happens to have dedicated their career to understanding how people heal.
I earned my Master's degree in Clinical Counseling from Seattle University, where I was trained in a model that treats context, culture, and community as inseparable from personal healing. Since then, I have worked with adults navigating trauma, sexual abuse recovery, anxiety, burnout, relationships that feel off or disconnected, and the many other challenges that come with the complexities of being human.
My approach is warm and direct. I will not sit in silence waiting for you to fill the space, and I will not hand you a worksheet instead of a relationship. I ask real questions, reflect what I notice, and hold a steady belief in your capacity to change even on the weeks you cannot find it yourself.
Outside the therapy hour, I am a parent, which keeps me honest about how messy growth actually is. I’m also an insatiably curious lifelong learner and grew up in the Pacific Northwest (though I do enjoy escaping the rain from time to time).

My Therapeutic Approach
I practice attachment-informed, trauma-sensitive therapy grounded in evidence-based care and a genuinely collaborative relationship. That means I pay close attention to how your earliest relationships shaped the way you connect, protect yourself, and ask for what you need. I pace the work so your nervous system stays with us rather than shutting down.
- Attachment-informed: We look at the relational patterns underneath the symptom, so change holds outside the therapy hour.
- Trauma-sensitive: Consent, choice, and pacing at every step. You decide what you share and when; stabilization always comes before processing.
- Collaborative: You are the expert on your life. We set the goals together, name what is working, and adjust openly when something is not.
- Evidence-based: I draw on cognitive-behavioral tools, emotion-focused and mindfulness-based practices, and body-aware regulation skills. Interventions are chosen to fit you rather than a one size fits all protocol.
